We've all been there—settling into a warm bath to wash off the day’s dirt and decompress. But as we unwind, our minds often start to replay the events of the day. Instead of focusing on the good moments, we fixate on that one negative interaction or setback. Before we know it, we’re rehearsing that moment over and over, and our hearts begin to feel heavy with sadness and anxiety. The “what-ifs” multiply, and our thoughts spiral out of control.
What was once a peaceful bath time quickly became a cesspool of despondency. How did this happen so quickly, and how can we shift our mindset?
3 Thoughts that can cause anxiety:
1. Motives of Others: The truth is, we can’t fully know the hearts and true motives of others. While we might suspect or project our feelings onto them, we can't always be certain of their intentions unless we ask.
2. Results of Future Events: The truth is, we don’t know what the future holds. Making definitive conclusions about things that haven’t happened yet can lead to unnecessary anxiety. What if it actually turns out in your favor?
3. Past Failures or Hurt: The truth is, failure can be a springboard for growth, and hurt opens the door to healing.
In moments of negativity, let’s filter our thoughts through the lens of truth. Think on what is true, and most importantly, think on WHO is true. When the diagnosis is tragic, remember that God is a healer—both in this life and the next. If someone close to you says something that hurts you, take a moment to pray about your next conversation, seeking clarity and unity. And when you find yourself worrying about future events, remember WHO holds your future. Don’t let concerns about tomorrow steal the joy of today.
Think about what is true, and when the truth feels heavy, remember WHO is true. Jesus will never fail you. In the valleys of life, He is there as your faithful Shepherd, fully aware of what troubles your heart. Give all your worries to Him, and trust that He will make all things right.
Here are a few positive words that you can contemplate in the tub and throughout the day:
💜“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” — Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT 🩷“Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.” — Psalms 55:22 NLT 🤍 “Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.” — Deuteronomy 31:8 NLT
Let’s transform bath time into a sacred space where we train our minds to think positively and embrace gratitude.
Wishing you peace and clarity.
